Did you know that at Inrego we reach our climate and environmental goals when you reach yours? It’s true. We believe in cooperation between organizations and companies simply because everyone benefits from a healthy planet. Here are four steps to reach your climate goals through IT:
1. Rent or buy circular IT
Whether it's phones, screens or computers for your company, we have a solid range to offer for hire. Would you rather own your devices? When you choose circular IT, you save a full 80 percent of the carbon dioxide emissions from a brand new phone. If, against the odds, you want to buy a new computer: make sure it's cleanly produced and that it can be reused and repaired. TCO certificate is an example of a reliable IT certification. If you buy something new, consider how you will use the product and how you can reuse it.
2. Use your IT product for a longer period
The circular economy is driven by the will to use our materials for a longer period. So, take care of your product! The most sustainable phone or computer is the one you already have. Is it possible to use the product for another year? Is it repairable? Can you replace the battery? When taking care of your device, you will also increase the product's resale value!
3. Sell it forward
When you're done with your computer, make it available to others! Extend the life of your used equipment by selling it to a re-user who can ensure it has an extended life. At Inrego, 95 percent of the products can be used a second time.
Make sure that your IT products are not piled up in your desk drawer. With each passing month it loses value and demand decreases on the secondary market. Therefore, make the best of what you have and make sure to keep your old products in circulation.
Many products are discarded even though they still have a high value and can be reused at least once more. Manufacturing accounts for approximately 80 percent of the emissions from computers and smartphones, so it is important to keep them in use to reduce the environmental impact of your electronics.
4. Recycle
When it is no longer possible to extend the life of a product, it is important to recycle it safely and correctly. As recycling is the last resort in the circular economy, ensure that all other options for extending the product's life have been explored first.
You can become part of the circular economy today. This is the beginning of long-term work that contributes to limiting climate change to 1.5 degrees in accordance with the Paris Agreement, protecting human rights and making the IT industry circular.
